A new model for filmmakers becoming founders
Beyond the Loop is Wonder Studios' flagship anthology for original filmmaking. Instead of trading away rights for the chance to produce a film, each creator in the select cohort gets funding, production support and a finished short built as a genuine proof of concept for a feature, series, or franchise, with real ownership attached.
Wonder describes it as a Y Combinator-style model for filmmaking: back a cohort, take original ideas from concept to audience and let real audience response decide what gets taken further. Forbes has already taken notice, calling Beyond the Loop a real test of “craft, ownership and IP”.
Six filmmakers, six worlds
Season 2's cohort of creators spans across music, animation, documentary, K-pop and sci-fi.
Hal Watmough - The Trials: a BAFTA-winning editor's cinematic sci-fi where a grieving girl and an injured cheetah may decide the fate of all life on Earth.
Kavan the Kid - Last Recall: an analogue-futurist sci-fi horror from the co-founder of Phantom X, whose AI shorts, including Echo Hunter, the first SAG-AFTRA approved AI film, have drawn 100M+ views.
Lion El Aton - Otherside: an anime-inspired thriller from the founder of FILM CRUX, set where the human and demon realms collide.
Junky Cream - 88: a one-take zombie-horror built on Unreal Engine and K-pop production craft, told through a Korean shamanistic lens.
Junie Lau - Goldfish Mayhem: a cyberpunk action-comedy rooted in southern China, from a Tribeca-screened AI filmmaker.
Jidenna - KITA: the Grammy-nominated artist's directorial debut, a near-future story about a lonely ex-tech founder and a malfunctioning delivery robot.

Why this matters to every creator
Six filmmakers is the beginning. The bigger idea is that the right tools should let anyone go from idea to finished product.
It’s also the thinking behind Director Mode, our canvas-based approach to AI video creation: you lay the story out on canvas, step back into any shot to rework it without tearing up everything else, pick up a scene with the Agent exactly where you left it instead of re-explaining the whole prompt, and keep every character, scene and prop in order as the story grows. It’s less about generating a short clip and more about building a story, one shot, one scene, one decision at a time and staying in the director’s chair from first cut to last. It’s exactly the kind of shift we believe in, that everyone is creative and everyone deserves the tools and the ownership to prove it.
Beyond the Loop’s filmmakers show what genre-bending, ownership-driven stories look like when creators get that kind of control over ambitious, original work. Director Mode is how we’re bringing a version of that same control to every single creator: build the story, adjust the take and keep directing.
