This article describes a user's experience of ads on CapCut for the European Economic Area (“EEA”), Switzerland, and the United Kingom (the “European Region”). For all other territories, please refer to the Privacy Policy.
At CapCut, we are committed to promoting transparency in every aspect of how our app operates — and that includes how we serve ads. We recognise that digital advertising can be complex, but we don’t think it has to be. In this article, we strive to communicate our ads practices simply and directly.
About CapCut Ads
At CapCut, we do not operate our own ad-serving infrastructure. We partner with established, industry-leading advertising providers that specialise in delivering ads to mobile applications. CapCut integrates software development kits ("SDKs") from third-party advertising networks to display ads within the app.
These SDKs are embedded within the CapCut app and are responsible for requesting, selecting, and rendering the ads you see. Each third-party advertising network communicates independently with its respective ad providers' servers to retrieve and display ads. To do so, the third-party advertising networks may independently collect certain data from your device — as described in the "Data Categories" sections below — to facilitate this process. Different advertising networks may collect slightly different categories of data, but all operate within the boundaries described in this article and in accordance with CapCut's Privacy Policy and applicable privacy laws.
By relying on trusted third-party advertising technology, we are able to keep CapCut's core features accessible and free for our users while prioritising your privacy so that our community can confidently create great content on the CapCut app.
Personalised Ads
What Are Personalised Ads?
Personalised ads are ads tailored to you based on signals analysed by third-party advertising networks about your activity, interests, and demographics. These signals help third-party advertising networks to select ads that are more likely to be relevant to you and your interests.
Data Categories Used for Personalised Ads
If you are above the age of 18, when you consent to personalised ads on the CapCut app, third-party advertising networks who have integrated SDKs into CapCut, may collect certain data points from your device to send to their own servers. These third-party advertising networks may then match these data points against the information they already hold about you to tailor the ads shown to you on the CapCut app. Not every third-party advertising network collects every category of data listed below, but the following information may be collected from your device and used as part of this process to show you personalised ads:
IP Address: Your device's IP address may be used to estimate your approximate location for regional ad targeting.
Device and Account Identifiers: Advertising identifiers (e.g., Android Advertising ID, Apple IDFA), vendor identifiers (e.g., IDFV) and other identifiers related to signed-in accounts on the device, which allow ad providers to recognise your device across sessions for ad selection and measurement. For example, a third-party advertising network may use your Apple IDFA to derive demographic and interest attributes (such as inferred age range, gender or interest categories) from its own servers based on your app and browsing activity across their ecosystem.
Device and Technical Information: Information relating to your device, such as device make, model, hardware, operating system, screen properties, language and region settings, and other technical device attributes.
Location Information: Alongside approximate location data that has been derived from your IP address, your SIM card region, or time zone settings may also be used to approximate your location for regional ad targeting.
Usage Information: Information about how you interact with the app and with ads, including content you view, ad impressions and clicks on ad content may be independently collected by third-party advertising networks to personalise your ad experience.
Your Consent Matters
Personalised ads on CapCut require your consent. In jurisdictions where personalised ads are displayed, we will present you with a consent mechanism to obtain your consent before serving personalised ads. You can manage your personalised advertising preferences at any time through your in-app settings by clicking on "Settings" > "Ad Network Preferences" > "On/Off" .
When you withdraw consent for personalised ads, you will continue to see ads, but they will be non-personalised. Withdrawing your consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing that occurred before the withdrawal.
Where are personalised ads shown?
Due to the manner in which the third-party advertising networks are integrated on CapCut, only some of the users in the European region will be shown personalised ads. Personalised ads may also not be an available experience for some of the European region countries. As of March 2026, personalised ads are shown in all of the European region except France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
Non-personalised Ads
What Are Non-Personalised Ads?
Non-personalised ads are ads that rely on contextual information — such as the general nature of the CapCut app or your coarse geographic location (typically city-level) — to determine which ads to show, without being specific to you.
Data Categories Used for Non-Personalised Ads
Even when ads are non-personalised, the third-party advertising networks may independently still collect and use a limited set of data:
IP Address: Could be used to estimate coarse geographic location for contextual geo-targeting for ads. This could mean that if your IP Address generally represents that you're a user in Lisbon, Portugal - you will be shown ads relevant to that specific location.
Device and Account Identifiers: Advertising identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID, Apple IDFA, app set ID (ASID)) may be used for frequency capping (limiting the number of times you see the same ad on the CapCut app), aggregated ad reporting and also combatting fraud. For non-personalised ads, these identifiers will not be used to infer your interests or serve you personalised ads.
Device and Technical Information: For example, basic device information such as device language, screen size and operating system may be processed, which are necessary for rendering the ad correctly.
