In CapCut, a remake refers to the process of recreating a video using your own photos or clips while following the exact editing style, effects, transitions, music timing, and layout of an existing template—whether it's a free template, a paid template, or a video shared by another user.
This feature allows you to quickly produce professional-looking videos without manually replicating complex edits. The remake function automatically maps your media into the template's structure, preserving its creative rhythm and visual flow.
As of January 2026, the remake feature is available across multiple platforms—but with important differences in functionality:
CapCut Online – Remake Supported for Unlocked Templates
- You can remake any free template directly from the Templates gallery.
- If you've previously purchased a paid template on mobile, it will appear in your "My Projects" or "Used Templates" section on Web, and you can remake it there.
- However, you cannot discover or initiate a remake of a paid template directly on Web—only those already unlocked via mobile.
- The remake workflow mirrors the mobile experience: upload media, auto-sync to template timing, then edit/export.
CapCut Desktop (Windows/macOS) – Limited Remake via Project Sync
- The Desktop app does not have a public Templates gallery or a "Remake" button during project creation.
- However, if you've remade a template on mobile (or used one), that project syncs to Desktop via your CapCut account.
- You can then edit, refine, and re-export the remade video on Desktop—but you cannot start a new remake from scratch within the Desktop app itself.
- No direct access to template browsing or purchasing; remakes are only possible through synced projects.
CapCut Mobile App (iOS/Android) – Full Remake Support
- Tap any template (free or paid) or a public video with the "Remake" button (usually labeled "Use template" or "Remake").
- Select your own photos/videos to replace the placeholders.
- CapCut automatically syncs your media to the original edit's timing, effects, filters, text animations, and soundtrack.
- You can further customize text, stickers, or audio before exporting.
📍 Note: Remaking a paid template requires purchase first (see Help Center #76).
🔑 Key Notes About Remakes
- 1
- Media Requirements: Templates specify how many photos/clips are needed (e.g., "5 clips required"). Your media must meet these requirements to proceed. 2
- Audio Flexibility: You can usually keep the original template music or replace it with your own track. 3
- Creative Control: After remaking, you retain full editing rights—you're not locked into the original design. 4
- Ownership: Videos you create via remake are yours to use, share, or monetize (subject to CapCut's Terms of Service and any third-party asset licenses).
💡 Tip: To find trending remake ideas, browse the "Discover" or "Templates" tab on mobile—videos labeled "Remake this" often include popular styles like travel montages, birthday slideshows, or product showcases.
While the core concept of a remake is consistent across platforms, CapCut Mobile remains the only place to discover, purchase, and initiate new remakes—especially for premium content. Use Web or Desktop for refinement and high-quality export after starting your remake on mobile.
Thank you for using CapCut!
