Template switching—meaning tapping a template link (e.g., from TikTok) and correctly opening that specific template in CapCut—is only supported on the CapCut Mobile App. Neither CapCut Web nor CapCut Desktop supports this "deep-link" template switching flow. Below are platform-specific troubleshooting steps.

CapCut Mobile App (iOS / Android) – Only Platform That Supports Template Switching

If you tap a template link (from TikTok, Instagram, or a shared URL) and experience any of the following:

  • Nothing happens (no app opens),
  • CapCut opens but shows a different/random template,
  • CapCut opens to the home screen instead of the template,

Please follow these steps:

Step 1: Update both TikTok and CapCut

  • Go to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  • Ensure both apps are updated to the latest version. Outdated versions often break deep-link compatibility.

Step 2: Do not uninstall during update

  • When updating, avoid uninstalling either app, as this may clear local cache or break link associations. Use "Update" only.

Step 3: Check if CapCut is set as the default handler

  • On Android: Go to Settings > Apps > CapCut > Open by default > Clear cache, then tap a template link again and select CapCut when prompted.
Clear the cache files
  • On iOS: iOS manages deep links automatically, but restarting your phone can help reset link routing.

Step 4: Test with a stable internet connection

  • Template links require an active network to fetch metadata.
  • Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data (or vice versa) and try again.

Step 5: Restart both apps and your device

  • Fully close TikTok and CapCut from the background.
  • Reopen TikTok, find the same video/template, and tap the link again.
  • If still failing, restart your phone and retry.

Step 6: Copy and paste the link manually (if available)

  • Tap the "…" on the TikTok video → Copy link.
  • Open CapCutGo to Profile > Settings (gear icon) > "Paste template link" (if available in your region).
  • Alternatively, paste the link into a browser—it should auto-redirect to CapCut.

📍 Note: If the template was deleted by the creator or removed for policy reasons, the link will either fail silently or open a generic CapCut page. This is not a bug—it means the template is no longer available.

❌ 2. CapCut Online – Template Switch Not Supported

  • The web version does not support deep-linking from external platforms like TikTok.
  • Clicking a CapCut template link while on a computer will either:

    a) Open CapCut Online homepage, or

    b) Show an error message like "This feature is only available in the CapCut mobile app."

  • There is no way to "switch" to a specific template via URL on Web.

📍 Recommendation: Always use a mobile device to open template links.

❌ 3. CapCut Desktop (Windows / macOS) – Template Switch Not Supported

  • Desktop apps cannot receive or interpret template deep links from browsers, TikTok, or messaging apps.
  • Pasting a template URL into the desktop app does nothing—it has no input field for template links.
  • Even if you open the link in a browser on the same PC, it will redirect you to download the mobile app or show a generic page.

📍 Recommendation: Template switching is a mobile-only workflow. Use your phone to access templates via links.
