To add holographic panels and a glowing name to a selfie, describe their orientation, the parts hidden by the person, and the colored light they cast on nearby skin or clothing. Start with a portrait that leaves space beside the subject. The examples use a generated portrait in CapCut at 16:9 to show how those instructions affect the result.

Start With a Simple Request

The first version asked for the effect the way it is usually described, by naming the elements and nothing about where they are.

The one-line request produced four abstract panels and a name bar. Most face the camera directly. One panel passes behind the arm, adding some depth, but the composition would benefit from more variation in orientation and more interaction with the portrait lighting.

Describe the Panel Orientation

For a more integrated effect, describe the panel as a plane in space. Specify which edge is farther away, how the internal lines converge, and where the panel overlaps the person. The longer request also controls the name and the colored lighting:

The second result has visibly sloping panel edges and a more pronounced sense of depth. The measured slopes of 35 and 38 degrees describe lines in the finished image. They do not establish that the model reproduced the requested 40-degree rotation relative to the camera. Judge the perspective by the complete panel shape and its relationship to the portrait.

Specify What Overlaps

Name both sides of each overlap: the fingers should cover part of the panel, and the shoulder should hide part of the name. This gives the generator a concrete relationship to create.

The detailed version places the name behind the head rather than behind the shoulder, hiding central letters instead of the first two. The still establishes an overlap, but the placement is not exact. Check that the intended name remains legible and that any hidden letters would form the correct word.

Add Light to Nearby Surfaces

Ask the cyan panel to cast a subtle tint on the nearest fingers or forearm and the magenta letters to add a faint edge light to the shoulder. Keep these effects restrained so the original portrait lighting still feels coherent.

The detailed still shows a cyan tint near the panel-hand overlap. This local interaction helps connect the effect to the person. Compare it with the simpler version, then adjust the prompt if the glow overwhelms the skin or appears on the wrong side of the subject.

Animate the Still and Check the Result

The written version was then animated from the same composer through the AI video generator flow, with the camera move described rather than implied: a slow track to the right, the man holding his pose, the elements staying where they are in the room so that they shift against the wall.

The example records relative movement between the face, panel and wall light. Those movements alone do not establish whether an element is fixed in the room: objects at different depths can shift differently during a camera move. Use the sequence to check visual continuity, especially the name, hand overlap and panel shape.

Pay particular attention to lettering as it emerges from behind the subject. In this sequence, the middle of the name does not resolve into complete letters after the person moves clear. For a result that requires a readable name, refine the animation or retain the still and add editable text during the finishing stage.

Finish With a Clear Portrait and Readable Name

Choose a portrait with enough space for the added elements, keep the face unobstructed, and inspect the name at the size viewers will see it. A tight crop may work better with a smaller panel or a name placed beside the subject. For animation, review the entire clip for changing letters, distorted fingers and abrupt shifts in the effect.

If the composition feels crowded, move or reduce the panel before animating again. Use your own name or an invented one, obtain permission for a real person’s portrait, and keep unlicensed logos and recognizable product interfaces out of the design. The invented name used here is NOVARIN.
