CapCut has recently updated its Team Collaboration feature to better support structured teamwork while aligning with its subscription model. These changes affect how users create, join, and manage collaborative workspaces—and they are applied consistently across platforms because team identity and permissions are managed centrally in the cloud. Below is a clear breakdown of what has changed and how it works on each platform where collaboration is supported.
CapCut Online
As the primary platform for team management, CapCut Online reflects all recent collaboration updates:
- Free collaboration is now limited: In newly created team spaces, you can invite only 1 additional member for free (i.e., a total of 2 people, including the owner).
- Upgrade required for larger teams: To add more than 1 collaborator, you must subscribe to CapCut Teams, which unlocks higher member limits (e.g., 5, 10, or custom seats) and shared cloud storage.
- Enhanced permission controls: Team Owners can now assign roles (Admin vs. Member) and control who can upload, edit, or delete shared assets.
- Brand Kit integration: Teams can now maintain a unified visual identity through centralized brand templates, fonts, and color palettes—only editable by Admins.
All these settings are accessible under Profile > Teams > Team Settings on CapCut.
CapCut Desktop (Windows / macOS)
The desktop app supports using team projects but does not reflect or allow any configuration of the new collaboration rules:
- You can open and edit projects from your team workspace as before.
- However, you cannot see member limits, invite collaborators, or check whether your space is on a free or paid plan.
- If your team exceeds the free limit (e.g., 2 members without a Teams subscription), you may lose access to certain shared assets—but the app won't explain why.
- Any action related to inviting members or upgrading must be done on CapCut Online.
📍 Note: The desktop experience remains focused on editing; team governance is handled entirely online.
CapCut Mobile App (iOS / Android)
The mobile app provides basic access to team content, but does not implement the new collaboration controls:
- You can view and use shared templates if you're already part of a team.
- However, when creating a new team, you'll only be able to invite one other person unless you upgrade—this restriction is enforced at the account level, even if the option isn't clearly shown in-app.
- There is no interface to manage member roles, view seat usage, or upgrade to Teams directly from mobile.
- Users attempting to collaborate beyond the free limit will encounter access errors, with a prompt to "Contact your team admin" or "Upgrade on web."
📍 Tip: For full control over collaboration settings, always use CapCut Online.
These updates aim to provide scalable collaboration tools while ensuring sustainable service development.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
