🌟 In CapCut, a "remake" refers to a video you create using a template originally shared by another user (often from TikTok or CapCut's Template Gallery). By default, when you finish editing such a project and go to export, CapCut may prompt you to share your version as a public remake, which appears on the original creator's template page.
If you do not want to post a remake, you can easily prevent this. The option to control remake sharing is available only on the Mobile App—CapCut Web and Desktop do not support posting remakes at all, so no action is needed there. Below are platform-specific instructions:
CapCut Mobile App (iOS / Android) – Only Platform with Remake Posting
When you edit a video based on a template (e.g., from TikTok "Use template in CapCut" or CapCut's Discover tab), the app treats it as a remake project. During export, follow these steps to avoid publishing it publicly:
Step 1: Tap "Export"
After finishing your editing, tap the Export button in the top-right corner.
Step 2: Look for the "Post as Remake" toggle
On the export preview screen, scroll down below the resolution/settings panel.
You'll see a section labeled "Share to CapCut" or "Post as Remake" with a switch (usually ON by default).
Step 3: Turn OFF the toggle
Slide the switch to OFF (grayed out).
This ensures your video will only be saved to your device and will not appear on the original template's remake feed.
Step 4: Complete export
Tap "Export" again to save the video locally.
No account activity or public sharing occurs.
📍 Tip: Even if you're logged out, CapCut may still show the toggle—but turning it off guarantees local-only saving. Also, disabling this does not affect your ability to later upload the video manually to TikTok, Instagram, etc.
Alternative: Edit without linking to the template
– If you never want your project associated with a template, duplicate the project after opening it:
- 1
- Open the template-based project 2
- Go to Project Settings (⋯ menu) > Save as New Project 3
- Now edit and export the copy—it will no longer be flagged as a remake.
CapCut Desktop (Windows / macOS) – No Remake Feature
- The desktop version does not support template remakes from TikTok or CapCut's online gallery.
- Any project opened on desktop is treated as original content, even if imported from mobile.
- When you export, there is no "Post as Remake" option—your video is always saved locally only.
📍 Recommendation: If you want full control and zero risk of accidental sharing, finalize and export remake-style projects on Desktop.
CapCut Online – No Remake Feature
- While CapCut Web allows you to use some templates, it does not publish remakes to the CapCut community.
- There is no toggle or prompt related to remake sharing during export.
- All exported videos are saved to your device only, with no public visibility.
📍 Note: Templates used on Web are for personal editing only—they cannot generate public remakes.
🔑 Summary
By following the steps above—especially on mobile—you retain full privacy over your edits while still enjoying the creative benefits of templates.
Thank you for using CapCut!
