Some photos or videos may appear in the CapCut album but not in your phone's system photo album. This is usually caused by system permissions or device-specific settings and does not mean that CapCut has duplicated, stored, or modified your files.
How CapCut Accesses Your Media
CapCut does not duplicate or save photos and videos stored locally on your device. All media displayed in CapCut comes directly from your phone's system storage.
CapCut can only access and display local media after you grant permission to access your photo album. This permission is requested when you use features such as:
- Video creation
- Shooting or recording
- Editing
You can revoke this permission at any time in your device's system settings. Once access is revoked, CapCut will no longer be able to display local media files.
Why Some Assets May Not Appear in Your Phone's Album
- 1
- The Local File Has Been Deleted
If a photo or video is deleted from your phone's local storage, CapCut will not be able to display it. CapCut does not keep separate copies of deleted files.
- 2
- Device System or Album Settings
Some devices include system features such as Hidden Albums. Media stored in hidden albums may not appear in the phone's main photo gallery, but can still be detected by certain apps depending on the device system.
Please check whether the album containing your assets is set to hidden in your device's system settings. If you do not want these assets to be hidden, you can adjust the album settings or remove the files as needed.
Additional Notes
- 1
- On the Web, CapCut does not have direct access to your device's system photo album. Media shown in the CapCut album on the web is limited to files that you manually upload during your session. If an asset appears in CapCut but not in your local photo album, please check whether the file exists on your device or cloud storage and upload it again if needed. 2
- On Desktop (PC/Mac), CapCut displays media based on the folders you have imported or granted access to. Files may appear in CapCut even if they are not visible in your system's default photo library app, especially if:
- The files are stored in non-default folders
- The files were moved after being imported
- The system photo app does not index certain file locations or formats
To resolve this, we recommend checking the original file location, ensuring the files still exist locally, and re-importing them into CapCut if necessary.
- 3
- On mobile devices, due to differences between device manufacturers, operating systems, and system album rules (such as hidden folders or system-managed media), the way photos and videos appear in the phone's photo album may vary. This can affect whether certain assets are visible in the system gallery while still being accessible in CapCut.
